The Railway That Saved Queensland
The railway that saved Queensland. The railway from Ipswich to Toowoomba was Queensland's first significant infrastructure build, without
it the colony would not have survived. Because it was the first our railway shaped the Queensland we live in today. Toowoomba and its
Geography is the reason we have a 3ft 6 inch rail gauge. This fascinating stroll through the magnificent railway precinct offers so much in
terms of history and unbelievable stories. The precinct is a veritable gold mine of significant history - war memorials, air raid
shelters and magnificent buildings.
We meet at the Northern end of the Goods Shed, 3 Victoria Street and finish with a coffee in Railway Street
