St Patrick's Cathedral. A Victorian Gothic Masterpiece

Is there a more majestic building in Toowoomba? That was certainly the opinion of the Darling Downs Gazette when it editorialised that "Standing upon the high grounds of South Toowoomba, the tall Gothic structure of the new Roman Catholic Church forms about the most conspicuous feature in our urban landscape. When the whole ambitious intention is fulfilled, Toowoomba will possess a cathedral that in size and solidity will yield to none in the colony".

St Patrick's Cathedral has dominated the skyline for almost 140 years. It is a fine example of a Victorian Gothic Church and has been a used continuously as a place of worship since its consecration on March 17 1889. The building has a myriad of stories to tell if you listen carefully. Stories, not only of the building and precinct themselves, but also of the growth and development of Toowoomba and the Darling Downs.
